With the second quarter ending last week, I am hoping to implement some rules and strategies to push the students towards becoming more responsible and independent. The school year is flying by and middle school will be here before we know it! I have eliminated the weekly take-home folders. Graded assignments have been handed back throughout the week, along with some field trip forms and informative handouts from the school. (I have all of the field trip permission slips in - no worries there!) In order to ensure that work is going home, I have been requiring that all the students have their take-home folders out on their desks before I begin to hand assignments back. Then, at the end of the day, students may not get their backpacks until they have both their planner and take-home folder on their desk. I cannot ensure that the papers in the folders are reaching your eyes, however, if you are not seeing graded assignments come home, DEFINITELY ask your student where their take-home folder is. I encourage take-home folders to go home EVERY DAY- even if nothing was passed back that day. It is a habit I want them to develop. Also, if you need to send something in to me, put it in that folder because it should be making its way to and from school every day. Also, grades will continue to be uploaded every Wednesday, and any missing assignments are marked in the gradebook on Skyward. I always follow through with students who have assignments missing, but I encourage parents to check up on Skyward if there are concerns about missing assignments. I am still accepting late work, however points are still being taken off for assignments that are turned in late. One of my classroom policies is that students put their name (FIRST AND LAST) and the date on every assignment. I have enforced this in the classroom since September, however I was lenient and allowed students some time to adjust into this rule. Now that we are halfway through the year, any assignment that does not have the student's first and last name, and the date on their assignment will have a point taken off. January has been hectic with NWEA testing and snow days; our schedule has been very wonky. After this week, I'm hoping to get back into our regular routine. I have been making an effort to pace our lessons better and reduce the homework load. Students are ALWAYS given time in class to work on homework. If your student is coming home with an overwhelming amount of homework, please contact me. This should not be the case. Lastly, with the third quarter starting, we will begin book reports. I have a list of books that the students can choose from (most of the books on the list I have in my classroom). Students will be required to complete one book report a month. I will be passing out information regarding book reports next week. Report cards will be going home on Friday. If you are interested in meeting any time within the next couple of weeks, I am more than willing to schedule a time! A majority of the grades on the report card are from before Christmas. (That seems like so long ago!) I cannot express enough what a joy it is being with these students every day. Each and every student has such a unique personality and makes my job so much fun! I hope that your students are enjoying this year as much as I am!! Social Studies: Point of View WS HW

Help us to receive graciously. Humble us, Lord, and help us realize that sometimes everyone needs help. Lord, help us to see that if we don't receive graciously, others don't know the joy of giving. We ask this through you, who accepted Simon's help to carry your cross. Amen. Band
