For the next week or so in reading, we are going to be working with Storyworks magazine, which is a Scholastic magazine that focuses on reading and language arts. Every month, the students will receive a copy of that month's edition, which includes a fiction, non-fiction, poem, informational text, debate, and a play, as well as some other types of writing and reading. After we are done working with the magazine in class, they can keep it and take it home.
There will not be any tests on Storyworks- but there will be homework every day in reading while we work through the magazine. For math, there will be a quiz next week (on Tuesday) covering chapter 2 lessons 1-5. The chapter 2 test will likely be the week after next. In religion, there will be no test next week. We have the 5th grade mass on Wednesday and on Tuesday, we will be practicing for the mass. I encourage everyone to come to the mass on Wednesday at 8:30, especially if your child is participating! The chapter 3 test in religion will not be for a little while. There will be no test in science or social studies next week. There is no school for students on Friday. Therefore, their spelling tests will be on Thursday. They will receive a new set of words on Monday, an activity on Tuesday, and the test on Thursday. I am starting to put grades into Skyward, so I am prepared for emails and meetings after school! ;) Feel free to contact me at ANY time- I want every student in my class to reach his or her full potential and am willing to help in any way! We have officially started spelling! The spelling words are in their Reading practice books. My plan for spelling is as follows:
Mondays: give the pre-test (not graded) Tuesdays: give activities/worksheets using those words Fridays: final (graded) test If a student scores a 90% or higher on the pre-test, she/he will be given a set of challenge words on Tuesday. The activities on Tuesday must be completed using the challenge words, and their test on Friday will be on those challenge words. I highly suggest the students who receive the challenge words study those words- they are significantly harder. Every week, the students will have another chance to receive the challenge words! Good luck studying for tomorrow's first spelling test! Science Lab (Photosynthesis)
